In a world where the demands of daily life seem to tug at our sleeves endlessly, it’s easy for women to put their health and wellness on the back burner—I did for many years.

As a young working mother in a problematic marriage, my mental, emotional, and physical energy had reached its limit, and I was too tired to eat a nutritional meal by the end of the day. By the time I bathed my children and tucked them safely into bed, all I could do was collapse into bed and do it all again the next day- Sound familiar?

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed my motherhood and work, but it often made me so exhausted that I neglected myself. Not only did I neglect my rest, nutritional needs, but also my fitness and general wellbeing. As a result, my mental health suffered as I developed depression and panic attacks. It wasn’t till years later that I could look back and realise that even if I spent only 10 minutes exercising and even if I didn’t feel like it – eating well, I would have had more energy of body, mind and spirit to face all the demands of my day.

Yet, as the saying goes, “Health is wealth,” never has this been truer for women. Prioritising health and wellness isn’t just about fitting into a specific dress size or adhering to societal beauty standards. It’s about empowerment, self-love, and the ability to live life to its fullest potential. Here’s why you will benefit from The Power of Prioritising Your Health and Wellness.

How Does that Work?

Breaking the Stigma.

Society has long perpetuated the idea that women should prioritise the needs of others over their own. By prioritising health, women challenge this outdated narrative and pave the way for a more balanced and equitable society.

Here are a few tips that have worked for me and may help you improve your health and wellness during your busy day to boost the empowerment of prioritising women’s health and wellness.

Nurturing the Core of the Family.

Women often play a central role in their families, whether as caregivers, partners, or mothers. By prioritising their health, women can better care for their loved ones. A healthy and happy woman sets the tone for a thriving family environment.

One of my goals was by prioritising women’s health and wellness so I could enjoy sports and other such activities with my children as they grew. I achieved that goal by climbing wall training, running, swimming, and cycling with my children as they grew into adulthood.

Enhancing Mental Health.

The NHS research has found that women are more susceptible to mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression than their male counterparts.

Regular exercise, proper nutrition, and self-care practices can significantly improve mental wellbeing, enabling women to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and grace.

Empowering Future Generations.

When women prioritise their health and wellness, they serve as role models for future generations. Daughters, nieces, and younger siblings learn the importance of self-care by observing the women in their lives, creating a ripple effect of positive habits.

Fostering Professional Success.

Prioritising health in the workplace can lead to increased productivity, creativity, and job satisfaction. Healthy habits such as regular exercise and adequate sleep improve cognitive function and decision-making abilities, ultimately enhancing career prospects.

Celebrating Individuality.

Every woman is unique, with her own set of strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations. Prioritising health allows women to embrace their Individuality and define success on their own terms, free from the constraints of external expectations.

Preserving Longevity.

Investing in health today pays dividends in the future. By prioritising preventive care and healthy lifestyle choices, women can reduce their risk of chronic diseases and enjoy a higher quality of life as they age.

Cultivating Self-Love.

Self-love is the foundation of a fulfilling life. Prioritising health and wellness is an act of self-love, affirming that women deserve care, respect, and nurturing.

In essence, prioritising health and wellness isn’t selfish; it’s a revolutionary act of self-empowerment. By embracing their wellbeing as a non-negotiable priority, women enhance their lives and inspire positive change in the world around them.

So, let’s redefine what it means to be a woman in today’s society—one who prioritises her health, embraces her strength, and lives life to the fullest.
